One way to beat the high cost of housing

Came home last night after going to the gym and my entire block was roped off with that nice bright yellow tape that says "Police line Do Not Cross".

Apparently there had been a fire in one of the apartment blocks on the other side of the street, and when the fire department came they found a drug lab (current guess is crystal meth).  So in come the police for the investigation, block gets roped off, have to show ID to go home, and this morning the Hazmat company is still there hauling out the stuff.    Fun, fun, fun.  Now I'm just hoping that it doesn't make the news or that my parents never guess it happened on my block.  Trying to explain that in Vancouver you are never living further than four blocks away from either a grow op or a drug lab isn't going to help much.

I don't think the high cost of housing is going to go down. We had a grow-op bust in the neighbouring condo complex last summer and my in-laws had one of their rentals turned into a grow-op.  Not a fun clean up job although I heard that it was a very professional set-up. The exhaust fumes were piped out the kitchen exhaust and only the bedrooms were used to grow plants. A cursory inspection would have found a perfectly normal living room area complete with TV/Stereo (which they left behind).  Regardless, the shootings within the last 4 days doesn't help. The parents are going to freak out anyways.
