Wesbrook made the "Best of Vancouver" list in the Georgia Straight

So I'm reading through the "Best of Vancouver" edition of the Georgia Straight and lo and behold I see that the Wesbrook building has been honoured with first place as....

| "Best place to find old lab glassware for crack pipes."
Health Sciences Mall. The Wesbrook Building and the UBC Hospital are just two facilities that don't always know what to do with their dirty dishes. Once, a guy on a bus with a black garbage bag full of old glassware explained to a Straight correspondent that he was heading from teh UBC garbage bins to the Downtown Eastside to sell his motherlode to a willing corner grocery . And hey, if the crack doesn't get you high, ther emight be some other residue present that's good for a pre coma buzz.
In the Wesbrook buildings' defense it probably isn't our glass waste, which after years of the above problems is now locked up inside the building in the cage inside a locked room that you have to get the key for the door and the combination for the lock from Lando. Pharmacys' glass waste is locked up in a cage outside that is semi attached to Wesbrook, and I'm willing to bet they still get broken into two or more times a month. Even with the lock inside one of those "cages" that barely gives you enough room to get your hand in to dial the combination they were still having people either cut the lock or just cut away all the caging on the door or one of the walls. All this for pasteur pipettes that have either been used with nasty chemicals or biohazards or both. Eeep. |
