Hi all.  Don and I are thinking of doing an Alaskan Cruise in mid-sept. Something to mark our 10th Anniversary.  Anyone else interested?
Any better ideas?

I'm pricing Celebrity and Holland America.  Looks like 1-2K each, for 7 days, sailng out of Vancouver.

Cheap cruises!

Funny you should mention cruising... (none / 0) (#1)

Eric and I were just talking about it over the dinner table last night. Now that the fall is 'open', we're considering vacation/traveling plans.

$1-2K is on the expensive side for an Alaskan Cruise. The cruise lines you're looking at are the classier ones.  I've travelled on celebrity lines twice (just got back from one) and it's very luxurious but more geared to the 'older than us' crowd.  Royal Carribean is the same company as celebrity but geared more for the 'active' crowd (ie ice rinks, rock climbing wall, etc). On the basis of ranking cruise lines are as follows: NCL=Carnival<Princess<Holland America=Royal Carribean<celebrity<Crystal.<p> There's lots of cheap cruise dealers out there. A good deal is usually $100-150 per night/per person. Check out http://www.onlinevacationcenter.com/searchengine/search_navigation.cfm

I spotted some for as low as $599US pp 7 nights. If you have some flexibility in dates, you should be able to find a good deal last minute. Sept for Alaskan Cruises is the start of the 'low' season.

Eric's Mom spotted a 7 night NCL Hawaiian Cruise Sept 2nd including airfare for about $1200 pp. It should be searchable on the onlinevacationcentre website.

I didn't actually watch the news blurb... (none / 0) (#2)

... but the travel person for Global was going to go over some deals for cruising on Thursday.  Should be on the website, which if memory serves is

www.travelbestbets.com

Might be worth a look.

My boating trip is already booked for this year:  I'm going rafting in the Yukon in August with my mother.

And this was Don's idea?

I just took a look at Geek Cruises, and note that there is a Linux Lunacy cruise in mid-september.

Is that the one Don was looking at?
