New York to LA in 32 hours, 7 minutes. No aircraft involved.


I bet they could have done it faster on motorcycles. Oh, wait, maybe not... They had extra fuel tanks in most of those cars, so there wouldn't have been as many fuel stops. Bikes would be off the road once every 300-400km to get more gas.

Well, that beats 63 days, which was the first-ever east-west crossing of the USA.

So who says you can't install extra tanks on motorcycles?  I know a guy that has a "fuel cell" in place of the passenger seat on his Yamaha FJ1200 sport-touring bike, and he regularly travels from Vancouver to Edmonton (1200km) on one tank, non-stop, in under 10 hours, apparently.  This is also the fellow I know that has fallen asleep while riding 3 times.  Now, granted, he's a wee bit crazy.  One can't help but wonder where the catheter bag is kept...
